Why Am I Fit for This Job?

To answer this question, I’m going to write about three things- my skills, my knowledge, and personal characteristics. I could tell you I’m a fit candidate for this job and you should hire me. However, you might accuse me of bragging without any evidence. Muhammad Ali once said, “It’s not bragging if you can back it up”. That’s why I’m going to enumerate 3 main reasons why I’m fit for the job.

First, I’m going to expound about what I can do for you. As a former English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher for 7 years, I was tasked to teach the four macro-skills in English. These include listening, speaking, reading and writing. I taught different learners with different learning styles so I taught basic to advanced English. I taught them how to write basic sentences, paragraphs, and essays. I also corrected their spelling, style, and grammar. Even though I was their teacher, I learned from them. Before I taught them a lesson, I studied it first so that I could explain the lesson to them very well. When I corrected their writing activity, I also learned from their mistakes.

Next is what I know. I started writing since I entered kindergarten. In school, I learned the correct and academic way of writing in English. In university, I took up Bachelor of Arts in English as my major. Aside from formal, critical, and technical writing, I also explored writing creatively. I expressed myself through stories and poems. In addition to what my English teachers taught me, I also read reputable English books and various novels to improve my vocabulary and writing skills. I also made friends with native English speakers. I observed how they speak and write and I applied what I learned with them.

Last is what I’m like. Writing is my passion. I enjoy writing about a variety of topics. If I could choose between writing and speaking, I’d choose writing. I can express myself more when I write. I remember when I was in high school, I joined an essay contest. To my surprise, I got the third place. When I started working after graduation, I was exposed to different coworkers and employers. I learned how to adapt and learn quickly at work. Of course, I’ve encountered some problems along the way. Because I am dedicated to doing the best, I focused on working instead of letting myself be affected.

To sum it up, I’m fit for this job because of my skills/work experience or what I can do, my knowledge or what I know, and my personal characteristics or what I’m like.
